Maiden-William "Bill" Dwight Ramseur, Sr., 90, passed away on August 27, 2017 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Bill was born on March 22, 1927 in Avery County to the late Fred Manley and Martha Propst Ramseur, Sr.  He attended Balls Creek School and Lenoir Rhyne University. Bill was a proud veteran of U.S. Navy. He graduated high school early to enlist in the Navy.  Bill served in 1945 and 1946 aboard the USS LSM216 in the Pacific Theater of World War II.  He was awarded the WW II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asia-Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.  He joined American Legion Post 240 in Maiden after completing his enlistment.  Mr. Ramseur was a retired service station operator.  Bill founded Ramseur's Service in 1948.  The business is still operating after 69 years.  Bill attended St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Maiden. He was a former church council member and vice-chairman of the congregation.  Mr. Ramseur was a well-known long time, Sunday school teacher of the "Bill Ramseur Sunday School Class" at St. Martin's.  Bill was a past member of the Maiden Optimist Club.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Edith C. Ramseur, two brothers; Richard "Jack" Ramseur and Rev. Fred M. Ramseur, Jr., four sisters; Irene Queen, Mildred Hewitt, Dorothy Joins and Ruth Faison.

Bill is survived by his two sons; William "Dwight" D. Ramseur, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Maiden and Robert "Dale" D. Ramseur and wife Debbie, of the home and granddaughter, Christy Vanover of the home, one grandson, Justin Dwight Ramseur and wife Sara, one sister, Geraldine Harbinson of Charlotte, one granddaughter, Brianna Vanover, a special friend Jacquelyn "Jackie" Hendricks of Newton, and many other cherished relatives and friends.

The Ramseur family will receive friends on August 30, 2017 from 1:00 - 1:45 pm at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Maiden.  A funeral service will follow in the sanctuary of St. Martin's Lutheran Church at 2:00 pm. Pastor Nathan Yoder will be officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC.  In lieu, of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martin's Lutheran Church.
