Newton - Bertie Minerva Drum Caldwell, age 93 of Newton passed away April 24, 2012 at Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born April 12, 1919 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Locke Drum and Mettie Drum.

She was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church and was retired from Bassett Furniture.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Floyd Caldwell and an infant son, William Caldwell.

Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Caldwell and his wife Mil, Tony Caldwell, and Phillip Caldwell; one daughter, Joyce Boston and her husband Wayne; a family friend, Mike Tallent; six grandchildren, Ronica Bowen and her husband George, Scott Caldwell and his wife Linda, Tonya Clark and her husband Charlie, Jill Boston, Duane Boston and his wife Ericka, and Jason Caldwell and his wife Haley; ten great grandchildren, Kyle Boston, Georgeanna Bowen, April Philyaw, Cody Clark, Chelsea Boston, Sammy Bowen, Caitlin Clark, Christian Caldwell, Cadence Caldwell, and Nariah Boston; and two great great grandchildren, Logan Philyaw and Harmony Philyaw, two brothers, Cletus Drum and Marvin Drum, five sisters, Pearl Hicks, Violet Cornelius, Jewel Austin, Natine Lineberger and Betty Drum.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church with Rev. Guy Helms officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will have a visitation on Thursday from 6 - 8 pm at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Catawba Valley or The Gideons.
